Mesa is a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, located in Maricopa County. The city is about 20 miles east of Phoenix, and is the central city in the East Valley region of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Part of the Sonoran Desert is located in the northeast corner of Mesa. This area is called Desert Arroyo Park. The city has a desert climate with mild winters and very hot summers.
Mesa is home to some amazing communities including: Alta Mesa, Mountain Ranch, Las Sendas, Mountain Bridge, Augusta Ranch, Superstition Springs, Eastmark, Villages at Eastridge, Thunder Mountain, Arboleda, Estates Groves, Legacy, Villa Tuscano, Hermosa Groves, and Trovita Estates. Most of these are golf communities due to the large amount of golf courses in the city, including several championship golf courses. Alta Mesa is an affordable golf community with cozy townhomes, condos, and custom-built luxury homes. This neighborhood is within walking distance of shopping and dining, and downtown Mesa is only six miles away. Las Sendas is an 1800-acre master planned community surrounded by lush vegetation and Sonoran Desert foothills, and Red Mountain Ranch provides its residents with an incredible view of Red Mountain.
Mountain Bridge is a family-friendly master planned community in the foothills of north Mesa. This community is welcoming of all ages. There are lengthy trails and paths for walking and exercise. A significant feature in this community is the beautiful Rustic Stone Bridge connecting the northern and southern areas of the city. Augusta Ranch is home to the Augusta Ranch 18-hole, par 61 Golf Course. Villa Tuscano is a gated community with custom designed luxury homes surrounded by citrus groves. Legacy has three different single-level models. This community is very successful, private, and luxurious. Legacy provides open spaces, a basketball course, bocce ball, horseshoes, and even a shaded tot lot for little ones to play on. Rancho de Arboleda is an urban community with mostly medium to large single-family homes and mobile homes. Eastmark is a large-scale neighborhood with parks, a splash pad, an event pavilion, a pool, a recreation center, and the new play structure “Orange Monster” for all ages to play and climb on. These communities provide shopping, dining, entertainment, and outdoor recreation are all within reach of your home. Mesa Public Schools is the largest school district in Arizona when it comes to student enrollment with over 50 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and 6 high schools.
Mesa Arts Center is a beautiful performing arts center that plays a wide variety of shows including Broadway, jazz and classical concerts, and dance recitals. Superstition Mountains provide endless hiking trails along with the opportunity to search for the Lost Dutchman’s Goldmine. Some wildlife in and around the mountains are mountain lions, black bears, peccaries, and bobcats. The Apache Trail is a popular day trip you can take to explore the Superstitious Mountains, Goldfield Ghost Town, Dolly Steamboat, and more. The Goldfield Ghost Town has a guided tour of the reconstructed section of mammoth mine. There are multiple shops, a saloon, and a general store in the ghost town. The Dolly Steamboat at Canyon Lake takes you on a nature cruise or a twilight dinner cruise to tour the lake and take in the gorgeous surroundings.
There are also museums, the Desert Botanical Garden, and the Phoenix Zoo to explore. The i.d.e.a. Museum is a children’s museum focused on art. i.d.e.a. stands for Imagination Design Experience Art, and they strive to inspire children to experience a different world through art, creativity and imagination. The Desert Botanic Garden provides trailside exhibits, temporary art exhibitions, and seasonal experiences. See the city through another perspective through Rainbow Ryders hot air balloon ride. These rides are offered daily for any occasion and group size.
When you get hungry, check out one of Mesa’s favorite places to eat. Beaver Choice serves a variety of Swedish, Polish and Canadian foods. Satisfy some of your international cravings or curiosities with Schnitzels, cured fish and meatballs. The Asian Café Express is another popular place in the area. They serve Hong-Kong style cuisine with stews, pots, fried rice, congee, noodle dishes, and more on their novella-sized menu. If you like a good view with your meal, the historic Mining Camp Restaurant is located at the bottom of the Superstitious Mountains. This spot provides live entertainment with family style dinners. Enjoy smoky barbecue ribs, ham, chicken, and rolls with cactus jelly in a lodge-like restaurant. This southwestern food is sure to hit the spot.
